VZW Galaxy Nexus LTE, yes; Extended Battery, no, December 27, 2011

Worked perfectly with the Verizon Galaxy Nexus LTE version. Was just minimal enough to protect the sides, corners and screen (if laid down flat), and didn’t increase the size barely at all. However , it does not work well with the extended battery. It fits, and clips on with the extended battery, but the side buttons are pushed up against the top of the slots in the case making them hard to press.

Something that must be taken into account when considering this case is that it is quite possibly the least protection you can get out of a case for this phone. If you’re looking for something to protect it in all circumstances, look else where. If however, you’re looking for a case that’s “barely there” then this is the best option you can get.

I have a Verizon Galaxy Nexus, which is a little thicker then the GSM unlocked variant made for the rest of the world, and it should be noted that this is made for the Verizon LTE version, *not* for the GSM. It will still work, but it’ll feel a little lose and that’s probably not what you want.

I managed to get this case in the mail 2 whole days before the Verizon Galaxy Nexus launched and had it with me when I purchased the phone from Best Buy. I snaps on with ease, but the sides needed to be flexed inwards a little before I felt comfortable leaving it to protect my new prize. (This could be do to having it in my pocket for close to 2 miles of walking.) Ever since then though, I’ve had no issues with it, but it does really provide a VERY minimal amount of protection. The back and sides are covered while the top and bottom are left free so that the case is hardly noticeable when looking at it from the front and it doesn’t add much thickness and no noticeable amount of weight. It is a sturdy piece of plastic though and it does feel like it adds some protection. If it were going to get hit in exactly the right way, I feel comfortable that it’d be well protected.

I’d plan on getting this to protect your phone from scratches and occasional drops from waist level though, and not much else. I’d also recommend using Zagg to protect the screen as it’s self healing tech is pretty fraking impressive. That combination is enough enough for me.

WARNING, January 3, 2012

This case does not fit the extended battery for the Galaxy Nexus. It’s semi-flexible, not quite like a hard case, but not nearly as soft as a silicone case. The case barely covers the phone’s top and bottom, yes it really is barely there, this case is really more for aesthetics rather than utility.

Senior Citizen Review of Ipod Touch, April 30, 2011

I purchased my Ipod Touch 8G in January just for fun and to see what all the fuss was about. I use a laptop and have wireless connectivity in my home. But I don’t store music on an Ipod and don’t have “smart” cell phone. After using the Ipod Touch for a few months, all I can say is “WOW”.

This device is like carrying a small computer in your pocket. I can connect to the internet wirelessly at home and anywhere I can find a public connection–library, cafe, etc. I check my email (read and compose), facebook, Meetups, Ravelry, take pictures and movies, and with the Skype App, can video call my kids. I have become hooked on the Angry Birds game, which is fun to do while waiting anywhere. I have also downloaded audio books from my library to take with me when I travel. I knit and have any pattern I am working on loaded on my Touch so I don’t worry about losing it. All this in a 2×4 inch little device I can carry with me everywhere.

I considered getting a smart phone instead, but Verizon’s additional mandatory monthly cost of /month turned me off. It would be nice to have internet access where ever I am, but I don’t need it and don’t want to pay 0/year for it. I like the fact that the Ipod Touch does not require any additional monthly costs.

I compared my Touch to my friends Ipad. It appears that my Touch does most everything the Ipad does, but the Touch is so much smaller.

My son has a Droid, which does what my Touch does plus it is his cell phone. But games wear his battery down quickly. I don’t have to worry about that since my phone is separate from my Touch. And I think my screen is a little bigger and sharper.

If I needed to be connected to the internet at all times and have a cell phone too, I would probably stick with a smart phone and pay the extra /month. But if you want a very versatile tool in a small package to carry with you, I highly recommend the Ipod Touch.

Having had a chance to spend a little time with a review model gives me a chance to share the experience with you a bit early (before my own arrives). I’ll take you hands-on with the new model, plus I’ll share from my past two years of iPod touch ownership altogether, especially for those who haven’t yet owned (or been owned by) one of these mobile gems.

I’ve also hidden a treasure trove of info on how you can legitimately download tons of quality apps for free. First though, let’s quickly cover what’s new.

Unlike last year’s iPod touch update, this one’s a complete overhaul to the entire line. Last year, the new models didn’t change in appearance. On the inside, faster processors and double-memory were added to the 32GB & 64GB models, but the 8GB got left out. Not this time. Buying the new 8GB iPod touch indeed gets you all the new goodies. You’ll also pay thirty bucks more than before, so consider buying the 32GB model instead. You’ll get 400% of the storage capacity for only 23% more coin!

I’m a mobile app developer who’s created a few apps and games for the iPhone, iPod Touch and now iPad. I was initially drawn to the iPod touch because of the popularity and capabilities of its mobile Web browsing–I was primarily a Web developer at the time and no other device could surf the Web so well. After I got one, I was hooked. I racked up over a hundred bucks in app purchases within the first month, and before long, I found myself learning how do develop native apps for the device.

Indeed, if you have never had an iPod touch before, you’re in for a real treat. Of course, if you have, then you know first hand: it’s is worth its weight in gold–no, in platinum. And now, with the latest generation, it may even be worth its weight rare gem stones! I digress.

===== Out With the Old =====

The iPod touch is frequently called an iPhone without the phone. However, until now there have been several other features also missing in the iPod touch besides the phone: a camera, GPS, magnetometer (compass), and some newer amenities from the iPhone 4: front-facing camera, high resolution “Retina display” as it has been dubbed, and the powerful 1GHz A4 processor–indeed a necessity to keep up with multitasking.

That all changes, now. The 4th gen iPod touch brings with it some new features and amenities, some of which have been anticipated by iPod touch fans and developers alike, including myself, for several generations of the device. The striking new design of the latest iPod touch is definitely a looker. Apple has made it even thinner (and I thought it was already too thin before) complete with a beautiful chrome back. While the super thin design is certainly attractive, I’ve found it slightly difficult to keep it well-gripped in your hands. The usual chrome back looks great too, but it’s scratch-insistent. Yes, it’s incredibly easy to scratch it all up, even after the first few days. This thing rocks!, September 8, 2010

*This review is from someone who never owned any Apple products before, married, healthcare professional, blackberry and palm TX owner (yeah I know, belongs in a museum), I was looking for a handheld internet browser by wifi, no monthly fees for 2 years, with camera, video, and apps that i can use for my work, and put in my pocket and it led me to this device. This is therefore a completely un-technical, layman’s review.

1. Delivery time: I was supposed to receive this September 10-14 with the regular shipping, but I got it today, maybe because I ordered it as soon as Steve Jobs finished presenting, so this deserves more than 5 stars!

2. Dimensions/looks: I actually prefer the “handling” of the bigger and heavier 3rd gen that I borrowed, its all smudge now without any cover, but boy! this is the most beautiful handheld device that I ever held, 4 stars for being smaller and lighter and smudgy.

3. Display: The retina display is amazing! Like reading from a glossy magazine, and yes you cannot see the pixels! 5 stars!

4. Wifi: Sync with ATT wifi – no problem, wifi in gym – no problem, monthly fees – no problem! 5 stars!

5. Internet Browsing: Hard to type in the addresses initially, but pages loads super fast (the longest was within thress-onethousand – all news channels), surfed the web with no problems,make pages bigger or smaller… this gets 5 stars as well.

6. Speed (Processor): this thing is super fast, web pages load within 3 seconds, downloading apps within 30 secs, youtube in a flash, the email attachment that opened in 1 minute in my computer took only 10 seconds! 5 stars indeed!

7. Camera: very grainy, will not use it for any important event, only for quick-I-need-a-camera moments, it will not replace my dSLR, but since it wasnt there in the previous gen, and I only use my dSLR and nothing else, this camera is still a bonus it gets 4 stars.

8. Apps for work/”work”: I already downloaded 4 very useful apps for work for free! plus 5 other free games for me and my 3 year old kid, the fact that I can now have apps without an iphone/ipad is great, the fact that its free is sweet! 5 stars!

8. Video: 720p HD! And I bought a Vado HD that does nothing else! Quality is up to par! 5 stars!

Overall, I have a device that surfs the net very very fast, manages my email, has a camera, great HD videocam, great free apps for work, that looks beautiful, and is great to look at, that I got 1 week early, what more can I ask for?!!! Worth every penny and deserves 5 stars!

And it stores and plays music too?! And has facetime?! And maps?! I feel like I paid for a Toyota and got a Lexus!

Will buy another one for my kid so she doesnt have to borrow mine!

Better than expected!, February 15, 2012

After having used many silicone type phone cases, I wanted something nicer for my new Galaxy Nexus i9250. This case is perfect! It’s very slim so it doesn’t add much to the phone. It prevents slippage on a surface, yet still moves around in my pocket well. Silicone cases I have used previously would stick to my pocket and make it difficult to move around with the phone in my pocket. Even though the Galaxy is bigger than my last phone (longer, but thinner)with this case, I hardly notice the phone is there.

I got the purple one; it is a nice color and the design of the case is chic. It protects the phone well, while barely adding any bulk. The case is easy to remove and replace, yet fits snugly on the phone, so it won’t slip off on its own. I would definitely recommend this case.

The phone is great, the Android is great, Samsung is great. this phone is really awesome, and the iphone is no match for it (even the iphone 5, believe me)

but we have a serious problem here, this seller announces it as it has a “worldwide warranty”, while its not true, waste 5min calling Samsung costumer support and see that they only provide warranty for the country you purchased the phone OFFICIALLY. this phone announced here is imported unofficially from many countries, as you can read the feedbacks, some people received it in german language, others in spanish language…

so if you want to buy this, be aware that you ill be uncovered by factory warranty.

AMAZON.COM, PLEASE ASK FOR THE SELLER TO REMOVE THE INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY ADVERTISEMENT. THATS NOT TRUE.

Too good for its battery…, August 1, 2011

It is as good as the other reviews say. So good in fact, that you can’t stop playing with it, and here is the problem – the gorgeous screen finishes the battery within ~4 hours. In standby and normal use (not much talking) it lives fine for a day, maybe even 2.

I’ve heard a rumor the new 2.3.4 improves the battery life over the original 2.3.3, but you’d have to root the phone as it’s not official yet. so far I don’t have the burning need for that.

You’ll be able to see most internet sites just fine, also writing some notes and emails is bearable. I had issues trying to submit this review from it, though (it has issues handling the big open text boxes, especially in horizontal mode).

Wi-Fi reception is decent; not as good as in laptops or my old Nokia E71, but usually good enough.

Another plus on this matter – free internet access points requiring you to hit ‘ok’ on their start page are now accessible for web browsing and then to any other app (unlike E71).

Amazon site mentioned international warranty, but I didn’t find any document on that in the box. Keeping the receipt and hoping I won’t need to use the warranty which I suspect I don’t really have. BTW, the device woke up in Spanish, but asked from the start which language I prefer. So it probably comes from Latin America…

As long as you’re ready for the few drawbacks, it’s a great device.

“International Warranty” not covered in the US!!!!!, August 19, 2011

I was just about to buy this phone from the seller. But before I did, I called Samsung US’s mobile department to see if the phone would be covered if something malfunctioned, they said no; only phones official in the US are covered. I was a little confused, so I called the seller. The person I talked to said it’s an International Warranty, “except not in the US.” A little false advertisement there… Just wanted fellow S II enthusiasts who wanted to buy this phone, and have bought it already, know!

Great value, no regrets., January 13, 2012

Fits well, dry application, and no air bubbles – if you’re careful, of course. I used an air can to make sure there’s no dirt on the screen. Application was easy. It didn’t lower the display quality in any way.

The only drawback: it’s a finger print/grease magnet – much more so than the actual screen – and it’s harder to clean up. However this is not a deal breaker for me, especially for the price I’ve paid.

Great value overall, no regrets, I recommend it.

This is much better than the other protector I tried for my Galaxy Nexus. It is extremely clear and does not interfere with swiping, etc. I’d buy it again, and in fact I’m going to buy the Halo for my son’s Droid Bionic (if they have a version for it).

That said:

I messed up the first attempt with this protector. Too much lint and dust. I wish there was a way for these to be manufactured with a less-staticky plastic. I have a clean house and no pets, but as soon as you peel the “step 1″ layer off, you can hear the crackle of static and the thing turns into a dust magnet. This is not a problem specific to the Halo. Have a roll of tape handy and start quickly dabbing the dust particles off. It’s tricky and frustrating, but this protector will look great once you get it on.

I ordered this screen protector for my galaxy nexus after purchasing and being completely unsatisfied with the screen protector I purchased from Verizon. This screen protector is excellent! Pretty easy to put on. There is no solution or water involved (which in reviewing some other options made me nervous). And,unlike the screen protector from Verizon, its absolutely clear! Colors are vivid and there is no grainy rainbow effect.

This phone is Awesome! I just upgraded from an iPhone 3G to this. Wow! This thing is fast fast fast. I got mine at the Apple store and run it on AT&T. The upgrade is a breeze, everything moved over without any problems. iOS5 is vastly improved over the previous version of iOS. Siri is fun and I’ll find more uses for it I’m sure, and fully expect siri to get integrated into apps.

It’s great to finally be able to use FaceTime, which I prefer over Skype. The Camera and Video on this phone are outstanding. The native apps have been improved. I love how the phone can interface with iCloud, though there are caveats (in my case I use Google Contacts/Calendars which won’t sync with iCloud). The display is stunning too!

Everything about this phone is so much better than my previous iPhone, which I loved. Apple just keeps raising the bar with its products, which is always a good thing for consumers.

It’s late and I’m tired, but I’ll come back and add more to this review as things come to mind.

Here’s something that came to mind. Alerts…. iOS5 does a great job with this.

Works With HTC Sensation, September 13, 2011

Works as advertised but does not come with instructions. At first I did not realize that the adapter REQUIRES external power. There is a female micro-USB port on the side of the adapter to plug your phone’s charging cable into. It wasn’t until I read another reviewer’s comments here that I realized my mistake. Duh!

So there are 4 connections required:

1) Adapter’s micro-USB male to phone’s micro-USB female

2) Phone charging cable’s micro-USB male to adapter’s micro-USB female (the adapter’s power source)

3) Standard HDMI cable male to adapter’s HDMI female

4) Other male end of standard HDMI cable to HDMI equipped display or TV

Nice home theater gadget, September 21, 2011

Like others who purchased this product, I am using it with my Samsung Galaxy S2 (a Sprint Epic 4G Touch). Initially I couldn’t get it to work, but that’s because I missed the female micro USB port on the side. I had ignorantly thought the TV would power the phone via HDMI but, whether the phone requires charging or not, the adapter has to be connected to a power source via a micro USB charging cable. I plugged the other end of my charging cable into a USB port on the side of my Samsung LN55C630. It is somewhat awkward connecting this charging cable as it T bones the adapter. I think a better design would have allowed all connected cables to be parallel with one another.

The phone’s Android interface looks so-so on my TV and I’m guessing its because the phone is at 800×480 resolution while the TV resolution is much higher. There was also a bit of overscan as some of the notification icons at the top of the Android display were somewhat cropped. A higher resolution video played by the standard Android video player looked fine however, and it looked like it was playing at its native resolution. I think there was still some overscan though.

I’ve given this item 4 stars because it transmits a faithful representation of my phone’s display to my HDTV at a reasonable price. I would have given it a fifth star if there was no overscan and if the connectors allowed the attached cables to be parallel.

Works the way it is supposed to, August 22, 2011

I love this adapter. I plugged it into my HTC Evo and also my brother’s Galaxy S2 phone and got both the show up on my TV. I love this because I have so many video and pictures of my family that I can share with people more easily than putting them on my laptop and showing them. All I did was plug in the micro usb part of the adapter into my phone and then I plugged in the Micro USB charging cable into the adapter. I bought the 6FT hdmi cable from Menotek also. Works great. I get an amazing picture quality and am very pleased. This adapter did not work without the micro usb charging cable connected to it, but I found out this is not the fault of the adapter from Menotek. This is how all of the MHL adapters work. I would definitely recomend this adapter to anyone who has a phone that supports MHL.

DO NOT BUY FROM SIMPLE CELL LLC, January 12, 2012

I purchased the iPhone 4s through Amazon to try and save money. I have tried to activate the phone through Sprint only to find that it is stolen. I am returning the phone today and if my money is not returned I will take legal action. Save the hassle and just don’t buy from this company. Perfect fit, volume rocker issue not present, December 24, 2011

There have been complaints on Diztronic TPU cases for the Galaxy Nexus having a poor fit due to the volume rocker area not being perfectly aligned. I’m glad to say that the issue does not exist on my case. The volume buttons work flawlessly.

I use the official extended battery and corresponding back cover. This case is a great, slim fit and is vastly better than the Verizon Glossy Silicone (TPU) Cover. Here’s why.

- The Verizon one is noticeably bulkier — you can feel it in your hand. It’s several millimeters longer, wider and thicker.

- The Diztronic one is much better constructed. First, the seam along the edge on the Verizon one is prominent, meaning you can feel the TPU material. Whereas, it’s subtle on the Diztronic one.

- Verizon case’s port cutouts are much bigger, for no apparent reason. It makes the phone’s design look obnoxious. The Diztronic is closer and simply looks better, while maintaining sufficient space for the ports.

- Verizon has a strange engraved design on the inside of the case. Diztronic is nice and clear.

- The Verizon one slides around when you place it on a typical desk. The Diztronic one doesn’t at all, even though the material on both cases feel identical in hand!

- The extended battery causes a subtle gap in the lower back of the Verizon case, while the Diztronic is a snug (but not tight) fit.

- The Verizon one costs ! Diztronic is only .

- The Verizon one is black and translucent, while you have choices of black and smoke on the Diztronic. I like the smoke case because it matches the color of the Nexus.

I’ve used TPU cases for all my smartphones since 2007 and they provide excellent protection against drops. I’m glad to find one that’s well constructed for such a newly released phone.

perfect case except for the volume rocker issue, December 30, 2011

i actually submitted a review not too long ago about this product but i guess it wasnt posted. well its a good thing i came to check or else i wouldnt have noticed the 2nd revision case. i have emailed diztronics and hope to receive one that doesnt make me hold my phone with a loose grip that i end up dropping it. i’ll update this review once if/when i get one.

everything else about the case is great. i dont mind that the cutouts are a little off since my charger and headphone plugs go in fine and arent obstructed by the case. overall the phone doesnt look too bulky but is protected enough. the screen protector fits perfectly as well and the display shines right through. great price great product!

***UPDATE***

diztronics sent me a revision 2 (matte black) case for no charge. volume rocker is still covered but no longer pressing accidentally. case still looks good and cutouts line up well. thank you diztronics, will definitely look for your products in the future.

Best fitting case and best looking., December 29, 2011

I must say, this is the best case I’ve purchased for the Galaxy Nexus (Verizon). Its translucent material is clear enough that the natural color of the device shows. You can see the hyperskin pattern of the battery back clearly. It also adds minimal thickness. Compared to the cases offered at Verizon stores and elsewhere, this one is much thinner and fits like a glove. No defects with this case, at least for me. So yeah, great case.

The 16GB and 32GB are the same exact phone., December 9, 2010

Below is my review of the 16GB model that I purchased in September. The two models are completely identical with the only exception being the additional 16G of storage space. Performance is totally unaffected by this……. Please note that this is strictly my opinion of the phone itself, I have no knowledge of this seller or the condition of the phones they sell.

I had the 8GB 3G model and thought that was great, until I got a demo of the iPhone 4. Man is this version is light years ahead of the original model.

With a 1Ghz CPU, and 16GB of flash memory, this thing is a portable office/entertainment center par excellence. I’ve had this phone for 3 months without a single problem, the display is nice and sharp, the apps load very fast, and I now have over 130 apps to perform just about every duty you could possibly think of with absolutely no impact on performance. And on the ATT 3G network, I average download speeds of around 1.8Mbps, and over 1M upload speeds….and how do I know that, cause I got an app that tells me that’s how. BTW, the display is the equivalent of a 960×640 on your desktop (double the 3G model) so what you see is essentially a high res yield and page loads are superfast. And resident memory, after a full days use I just checked and still had 120Mb of Ram available. On the 3G model that number was usually down around 4Mb by the end of the work day and had to be refreshed.

I was in the computer/design/manufacturing business for 20 years, and this is by far the most amazing piece of technology I have ever seen or imagined. Even the battery life is 3x better than the previous model, and thats a good thing cause its integrated but a full charge should yield and entire days work of calls, emails, surfing the web, SMS messaging, and play. I no longer need my laptop cause there’s nothing I cant do with the iPhone, and that includes sending faxes, editing Excel or Word documents, and even printing. A flash for the 5MP camera, an HD video camera, and even real time video conferencing over a wireless network, and Bluetooth that unlike the 3G model is actually compatible with everything you throw at it, including Garmin GPS….just amazing. This thing even has 2 mics with noise suppression so calls are clearer on the other end. Man, Apple hit this one out of the park.

BTW, with all the apps, music, and videos I’ve got loaded on this thing I’ve still got 10GB of flash memory remaining. I cant imagine why anybody would need more storage, and the 32GB model isn’t any faster and doesn’t have any more features. You’ll need iTunes on your desktop to get the most out of this phone and iTunes can be a little intimidating at first but its worth the trouble, and all the instruction you need can be found on the web or Youtube for transferring photos, videos, music, apps, etc.

Update 12/09/10: I’ve been reading up on the “antenna problem” with the iPhone 4G and have this to say…. It is easily cured by slapping on a hard case or shell on the phone, which eliminates the issue I see some people complaining about. I have personally never experienced this issue because I left the AT&T store with a protective shell on my phone which virtually everybody I’ve ever seen with an iPhone has anyway. Very simply you CANNOT replicate the reported “death grip” problem with a shell around the outer frame. Cant be done. And BTW, I don’t know if its due to network improvements or what but lately I’m getting 4Mbps download speeds so if anything I’m happier with my purchase now than I was 4 months ago. Zero complaints, and that’s something most smartphone users of other OEM products can’t say.

A final word: Beware negative reviews on here that are filled with bad English and are authored by individuals who have written only one review (on the iPhone) and posted it in several locations on Amazon’s site. Its easy to pick these out, and they have no doubt been written by the same person. A final final word: Apparently this phone from Worldwide Distributors is LOCKED! If you plan to use this phone outside AT&T’s network you are screwed. All the one star reviews are from idiots that paid 0 for this phone without doing proper due diligence.

Oh wait, I do have one complaint about the iPhone 4. Several times a month my girlfriend gets mad at me and hangs up in the middle of the conversation so I guess I’m suffering from this “dropped call” thing after all. haw haw

If you are looking to buy an iPhone-whether 3, 3GS, or 4 DO NOT BUY ONE WITH DUAL SIMS! Those are a Chinese knock off called sciphone or hiPhone. They only look like iPhones! They are java based, have no apps, do not have the storage capacity stated in the ads, won’t sync with iTunes, and if it breaks you will be laughed out of the Apple store if you show up with it to get repairs. Don’t be ripped off. And if you see one listed, report it to amazon-these are a direct violation of copyright laws. Just a friendly warning

The iPhone4 is the first smartphone I ever owned so I’m just going with what I know. This review is not regarding AT&T (service sucks), but I’m not reviewing AT&T.

I love the iPhone4 because of all the apps you can get to organize your life and it’s camera. Who knew that your life can be organized in the palm of your hands? I’ve been able to sell and buy off the eBay app. Purchase from Living Social, Groupon and Amazon. Price compare with RedLaser. Go on the internet to check email/search. I no longer have to carry my wallet/keys full of membership cards because I have an app that scanned all those numbers. I cannot live without my iPhone. The iPhone4 has now replaced my GPS, my calender book, my iPod, and point and shoot camera. My purse is now so much lighter.

Camera quality is superb during the day. Use at night isn’t so great. Gave 4 stars instead of 5 cause of camera and night mode quality.

I don’t know what I’ll do if I ever lose it…:/
